Steveston Salmon FestivalJuly 1, Canada Day
This annual event starts with a 10:00am parade. To celebrate the rich culture, there are exhibitions such as Japanese cultural shows, crafts fairs, trade shows and the Childrens’ festival.

Illuminares Lantern Festival
July 29
Trout Lake, Victoria at East 15th at 7:00pm
Celebrate the 18th annual lights festival. Bring your homemade paper lanterns that light up the night. There are magnificent lanterns all over the lake, music, fire sculptures and fire works finale at 1:00pm

If you don’t know how to make a lantern, you can attend “Illuminares lantern-making workshops begining on July 17 at Trout Lake Community Centre. For more information, contact Carrie Campbell at setdec@publicdreams.org.

Vancouver Pride Week Celebration
July 29th to August 6th
The annual summer Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender celebration. The Pride Parade takes place along Denman Street on August 6th.

Powell Street Festival
August 5 and 6, 2006
The 30th annual Powell Festival held annually celebrates Japanese Canadian culture. Events are held in Oppenheimer Park and the Firehall Arts Centre. Performances includ taiko drumming, sumo wrestling, alternative pop/rock/urban music, film/video, play. Of course, you can taste great Japanese food from venders!

Latin Summer Festival
August 20
Trout Lake, Victoria at East 15th 11:00am to 7:00pm
The day starts off with a parade along Commercial Drive. There are Import markets and Latin dancing on stage.

Taiwanese Cultural Festival
September 2, 3 and 4
Plaza of Nations and the Roundhouse Community Centre
